I think all 12 presets, the 4 blitz and 8 tournament modes, can be modified and saved based on user preference. So the first blitz mode is 5 mins but you could change and save it as 3:00, 3+2, 1, etc.

Sorry for all the chess clock questions - but I'm trying to figure out from the little information available online what exactly the Chronos FX literature means when it says "4 preset blitz modes, 8 present tournament modes, and 12 user pre-set modes". It seems this is quite a stretch to claim - because from the user manuals it looks as though, in fact, there really are only 12 modes total - and the "user pre-set" modes really only reflect the ability to change the factory presets. So, yes, there are 12 modes - but only 12 - all are customizable.
Am I understanding this correctly? The advertising made me think that what we had was 12 modes that are factory preset (and permanent) and then 12 other modes that are user-set, for a total of up to 24 that you could choose from on startup... but this seems not to be the case (a little dishonest if you ask me).
The DGT XL, on the other hand, genuinely seems to have 22 modes that are factory preset, and then a truly additional set of 5 storage spaces for user-set modes.
