Using a smartboard with chess.com against the computer

Not got the board yet but it’s on order. I have however installed the app on my iPad and it is excellent you click the online button it asks if you want chess or lichess then basically takes you to there web page but everything uses the board.

The problem has been the connection between the board and the app.
I think the app is better than it was when I first got my board, but there are still issues.
Trying the app without the board is useless, to be honest. You are using it without the largest component in the setup.

I use the Chessnut Air to play the bots on Chess.com because it works. My DGT Pegasus is in it's box in a closet somewhere. I'm surprised DGT hasn't lost more market share to Chessnut.

And now I have the board and it is excellent I have been playing the chess.com bots on it for the last two days it works great I will never buy DGT again Chessnut all the way for me now.

Is using a real chess board and piece set that much more bothersome than using an electronic chess board that occasionally works well?

Is using a real chess board and piece set that much more bothersome than using an electronic chess board that occasionally works well?
As someone who has used both, yes.
First, the e-boards do not "occasionally work well". They work well the vast majority of the time. My Evo has not had an issue in quite a while, my Chessup has never had an issue. My Air has been relegated to the back burner since I got the Evo and Chessup but it was working fine when I was using it,
I used a regular chess board set up next to my computer for year.
I would make my move on the physical chess board, then make the move on the computer.
Then I would wait for the sound of the move on my computer, stop looking at the board to look at the screen and see what was moved and where, then make the move on the physical board.
With a properly working e-board (which of the ones I own and use work properly 99% of the time) I look at the board the whole time. The only time I may not is when I need to see the clock, but my peripheral vision usually handles that, just like in an actual OTB game.
They are vastly superior to the old regular board and computer screen. The technology is getting better every week with updates.

There was a story about one GM went to visit to another GM, first asked the other "Why this (physical) chess-set standing here?", the second answered "as a stand-mat for tea". Bottom-line, why one would bother to use any (physical, real) chess-set at all, when he could elegantly take the cheapest possible tablet and enjoy the game that way?

For me I see the board better in live 3D than a flat 2d screen I get sniped by those pesky bishops a lot less as I can see all the moves on the board better. And it also just feeels good to actually pick up the pieces and move them instead of just touching a screen.

Why not playing with your DGT against engines like Rodent III or Rodent IV or the various Maia's, which all can be installed on your Pc or Android?

For me it’s just that I have only ever played on chess.com when I first started I didn’t know there were alternatives and payed for a year of chess.com upfront so I am kind of tied into it for a year now.

Really, as there were not chess bots before and aside of the chess.com's... Basically, you could make your own bot by tinkering with engine's parameters yourself and call it as you wish, Catty, Kitty... for instance, chessmaster or fritz engines has that in "preferences"... (custom "personalities")
apropo first post, yes, as supposed, "physicality" of the pieces, it is more "real" and less "virtual" that way.

There is joy in using an attractive board and piece set . For online play it depends upon the time control to allow the moving of pieces without an undue time penalty, and whether or not an electronic board is reliable.

I understand, thank-you. I do play with my DGT connected to the internet, as I love doing so, and to prepare for OTB matches I like playing with a real chessboard, and not only online on a screen. Still, I was not understanding why the preference seemed to be towards playing against C.com bots, rather than using the DGT against engines like Maia or Rodent.
Now I've understood it is for "historical" reasons, or because people didn't know that much better alternatives exist.
Hoping to be of some help to those, I would recommend to google for "Rodent chess engine" or "Maia chess engine" and setup your environment properly, so to have your DGT's connected to your home device (windows or Android). This will provide you a perfect setup in which you can use your DGT and practice against either very strong engines (if you like) or bots that can play quite interesting / fun / human-like games.

Is the "Chessnut EVO" superior to any DGT board?
I only have the DGT Pegasus so I can only compare to that.
I think the Evo is far superior to the Pegasus. You can do so much more with the Evo.
I can use the Evo on virtually any chess website. The technology reads the screen so I can use it with tactics sites, sites with lessons, etc.

I'm looking forward to maybe consider getting it. But in leisure way, not forcing.
edit: I once asked via message "Chessnut", do they deliver their older product to my country they said yes, via China. Then commercial for "EVO" appeared on "youtube" and I changed my mind. One month before I lost some cryptos in retarded way.
It’s no good anyway I only have an iPad and extension don’t work
