Despite what the label says, it looks like a mid-century French set to me.
That would make sense looking at the style and quality of the pieces. Did Jaques ever sell french made pieces like this under their brand or is this box mismatched to the set?

Hi! I was hoping for some help finding out more about this vintage set I picked up. It is in a box with a "J J & S" "Made in England" label. The king is 2.75" tall, and the set is a bit crude with finish that has runs in places and appears in general to be a lower-price set. Any idea when this set would have been made or any other info about it?
