Also, are there any good books on chess strategy out there? As this is another area of chess I am interested in, I have already bought Winning Chess Strategies and Winning Chess Endgames. Do you know of another good one?
Vukovic or Timman?
Although I haven't read either book I believe that Timman is the better player. One book that I would highly recommend is Chess by L. Polgar. His daughters have done quite well using his techniques. It will definitely improve your tactics for about 20 bucks. Available at Chapters.

Hi everyone. For some time now, I have wanted to get a good book on the attack in chess and I've narrowed my search down to two possibilities: Jan Timman's "On the Attack!!" and Vladimir Vukovic's "The Art of Attack in Chess." Herein lies the problem, I can't decide between the two! I've read loads of reviews that indicate that either book will make my attacking skills soar to the clouds, but I have reservations. First of all, many GM players seem to impart Vukovic's work on their students as required chess study, but I'm concerned that some of Vukovic's ideas may be slightly out-dated. In particular, I've heard that he stresses that attacks must lead to a "checkmate-or-die" position, which is not always the case.
Jan Timman's On the Attack!! seems to indicate a more modern approach to the attack in chess, and therefore seems to be more sound in its viewpoints. I have also had this particular author highly recommended to me when studying the attack.
I can only purchase one at this time, and I'd like to know which one you would all recommend. I like the ideas behind both, but I want to know which one is more likely to win me more games rather than make my play more spectacular.
Thanks a lot!
