what are some good chess writers

Anything by the publisher Gambit is good. About the only way you can go wrong with a Gambit book is if you get one that's inappropriate for your skill level.

Several of the better writers, who generally do a better job than average job of explaining the why's and wherefores of the chess moves. And especially appreciated by improving chess amateurs.
