Good Chess Books for Beginners and Beyond...

As Russ says: For an introduction to chess opening concepts - "Discovering Chess Openings" by John Emms. It focuses specifically on FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES of opening play.
I found this book to be VERY useful at helping me understand smaller nuances ("luxury pawn moves" is the one I always cite) that are sometimes glossed over in other opening books. Definitely recommended.
As the title says i would like to know some books that would be a good read for a beginner (about the basics like openings),
thanks,
