I am going to enthusiastically recommend the Seinfeld book! I haven't in Kindle format, and it is in algebraic notation. For a beginner, you cannot do better. That and Logical Chess will take you far.

Seinfeld? Lol.
If we assume you want a book covering all areas and for someone perhaps rated lower than 1000 then I'd say "the best' is;
"Win at Chess, William Hartson ".
There are lots of other good similar books (Seirwan, Silman, Alburt, Polgar, etc) but this is far better written, more to the point and more practical.
Older versions under the name of "Teach Yourself chess" are available cheaply. I (almost embarrassingly) have 100 odd chess books mostly at 'beginner to intermediate' level. This one (and its follow up 'Improve your Chess', formerly 'TYS better chess') is by far the best written and most useful.

Agree with the Hartson choice also consider this: usually available second hand in various editions

Play Better Chess was one of my first chess books. I still refer to it occasionally when analysing a game or thinking about a new opening to play.
I want to buy a chess books
