What is the best Chess piece?(other than Queen)
I think that the horse is a good piece because it is easy to fork people with it.
Since we are in CB&E, we know all about the superiority of the knight. It is the piece that requires intricate carving rather than simple turning, and there can be greater variation in its design. It is often the showpiece! Unfortunately, because it is more expensive to produce, it's design is often sacrificed in economical sets.
The bishop has mootably the least design interest. Beyond simple turning it only has a miter cut, or not. Sometimes it has a finial of opposite color. Otherwise the design only varies in small shape or proportion variations. It's on par with the rook which may or may not have turret cuts. (Pawns are even lower on the interest scale. )
I like the king for being the average piece: Moves like the queen, just a bit slower, shares diagonality with the bishop, orthogonality with the rook, is short-ranged like the pawn and an octopus like the knight.
If you add up 9, 5, 3, 3 and 1 (the piece values of queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawn) and divide it by the number of different pieces, you get a value of 21:5=4,2.
It so happens that the fighting power of the king has been estimated of being roughly that of 4 pawns.
Now here is a king from the middle of the people!
I like the bishop because, it is great for discover attacks, it can be a sniper from across the board, and it works very well with the queen for opening/ middle game victories.
I personally like the Arch-Bishop, mainly because it looks cool 😅😅
Is it the "Eye of Sauron" thing? ![]()
