What is the best way to sell these chess books?

If it were me, I'd use eBay because I live a hundred miles from the nearest large city. If I were back in the Bay Area, I'd go to a used bookstore (Mel's Books on Telegraph in Berkeley has lots of chess books and will buy them cash or give a bit more in credit towards another purchase) or take them to a club or tournament and try to sell them there. Best to you.

10 dollars + 3.99 for shipping and handling, leave out Silman, because I don't have a fireplace, so don't need it to start a fire.
What's wrong with Silman?

Sigh more with the Silman bashing, I gained 300 points after reading his book. Just because it didn't work for you doesn't mean it didn't work for everyone.

"Hey look, a forum topic! I wonder if there's some way I can get a Silman bash to be relevant...analyzing...analyzing..."

You love it, well I didn't prevent you from buying it, didn't I? Last time I checked my rating, I gained 500 points, because I didn't read Silman, guess how much you lost reading it!
I actually have never read any of Silman's stuff on strategy and imbalances.

Look here the topic is about the guy asking how to sell these books, I made a low offer, because I like to have some of the books, but I'm not dying for them. I don't care to have Silman because in my opinion is crap. You love it, well I didn't prevent you from buying it, didn't I? Did you consider the option of just saying nothing? If you have nothing nice (or useful) to say...

Did you consider to avoid to follow me in a thread you don't care, for just writing your useless comments, that nobody asked? Are you the seller of those books under another account name? Or your goal is to harass me because in a previous thread, like the one on strategy, we had completely different view on the subject? Or maybe your goal is not to come here to play chess, but just to write comments, because you have nothing better to do in life? What is your compulsive need to answer to messages that were not written for you, or in any way intended for you????
I understand the moderators in chess.com are quite arbitrary, but they should look into people who just come in a thread to troll, and annoy someone else. Because then the thread degenerate in insults, and they feel all upset.
lol

Amazon.
Or - if you have one, most places dont - an old book shop that stocks disused books. I usually give my books to a local shop, but I dont get money from it :S

Let's hope one day chess.com put a limit to the amount of accounts a troll can open.
In some cases one is certainly too much.

Donate them to a school chess club ,get a reciept, and you can take thier full price off your taxes as a charitable contribution. It's much better than you'll get at a used bookstore.
Wow, never thought of that. Talk about win-win situation...

That works if you have enough deductions to itemize your taxes, but if you don't have enough deductions and do the simple form you would be just giving them away. Of course the used bookstore way you'll get the least, but you are rid of them quickly and have cash in pocket, which in today's economy is important to some people. A direct sale, say to a club member or tournament player, may get the most, but you have to go to the club or tournament and hope to find a person to buy. eBay would be somewhere between as you have to pay fees and have more competition. Of course, if you don't need cash, but could use a tax break, your suggestion would save a lot hassle.
Perhaps the OP will let us know someday how he disposed of his books.
Cheers
I tried a used book store, but they wanted to pay 50 cents per book, and would not even let me trade 5 books for 1 book.
Selling to someone here sounds nice, but I'd have to set up a paypal account.
The Art of Attack in Chess is probably worth enough to sell on Amazon and still be worth the fees. The beginner books I'll probably just donate or give away. Maybe I could sell the three beginner books as a bundle for $2 on craigslist, since I'll have to answer the phone regardless even if I give them away.
I've sold tons of stuff on craiglist, but this will be my first time selling books.
I actually have a paypal account, but I don't remember how to get to it. I also think the email address I used is the one that was hacked, which I can no longer access. I once sold someone something for $25, and 8 months later when I finally got around to hacking my old password, the money was there. I've forgotten it again since then.

What would you take for the three advanced books?
p.s. Add the Silman book to that enquiry. PM me with a total price for the four books plus cheapest postage.

Wow, harsh bookstore! If I remember correctly Moe's paid half the cover price and sold them for three quarters the cover price. Of course condition was taken into consideration, first editions, etc.
Bundling is a good idea as long as someone needs/wants both books. I bought copies of the Art of Attack and the Art of Defense together, the seller (this was at tournament) commented he wondered if they would go together.
You may need PayPal even with Craigslist. There is an engine that will search keywords on all the lists, so you could get out of area buyers. Amazon or eBay is safer, you don't have to answer the phone or meet some stranger. Set up a new email account with Yahoo or Google and use it only for PayPal and use a strong password. Use only the first letters of a phrase, caps and lower case, numbers and letters, and a puncutation mark. For example, "I just beat Bobby Fischer two times!" becomes "IjbBF2x!" Hard to hack, easy to remember, and if you write it out nobody will know what it means.
Since nobody has complained, why not list your prices here and see what happens? It's not like you are commercial seller after all. Worst that could happen is a moderator slapping your hand.
Looking over your list I have everything except perhaps (I say perhaps because I have well over 1000) Positional Chess Handbook and Complete Chess Workout. How much do you want for them?
Do these prices sound fair/desireable?
Advanced:
The Art of Defense
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/830/book5y.jpg/
Excellent condition.
Lowest price on Amazon is $2.32 for good condition, very good condition is $4.94. I'll include it for $3.
The Art of Attack in Chess
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/12/book7g.jpg/
Picture is head on: the binding has a slant but is strong. Cover is a bit dirty. 90% of pages are clean. 10% are underlined.
The lowest price on Amazon is $9.26. Your's for $8.
Positional Chess Handbook
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/9/book4f.jpg/
Excellent condition. Price on Amazon is around $5 if you subtract $4 shipping from the free super shipping offer. You can have it for $4 plus bundled shipping.
Intermediate:
Amateur's Mind
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/836/book1h.jpg/
No markings insided. There were bent pages, and the cover is a bit curled. Good author, but I don't have time to read it when I already have smaller more concise books.
Low price on Amazon is $6.99. Your's for $5 plus bundled shipping.
The Complete Chess Workout
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/book2p.jpg/
Good condition, at near my level. I just don't have the time or will, and I have several other cheaper tactics book.
Cheapest copy on Amazon is $12.74 used. Yours for $10 plus bundled shipping.
One beginner book and two novice books.
Beginner: Comprehensive Chess Course 1.
Novice: The Complete Chess Player, and Chess for Beginners
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/book3o.jpg/
I'll sell the bundle for $3 plus shipping.
Shipping will be cheapest rate, capped at $5 if you buy enough. --- I don't know how much envelops or media mail costs, but will find out.

But anyone who thinks you're an idiot is really just me in disguise; if I could only have one account, then everybody would think you're a genius and let you take over the world!

This is the smartest thing I've ever said, I must say.
Advanced (1600+):
The Art of Attack in Chess, Vukovic, paperback. Has highlighting in it.
The Art of Defense in Chess, Andrew Soltis, Paperback, excellent condition.
Positional Chess Handbook, 495 instructive positions, Geifer, like new condition
Intermediate level (1400-1500):
Amateur's MInd, Silman, good condition, paperback.
The Complete Chess Workout, Richard Palliser, 1200 problems from real games not classified by theme.
Class D:
Chess for beginners, I.A. Horowitz. Old but no writing in it, so good condition.
Beginners (under 1000):
Comprehensive Chess Course Volume I, Pelts/Alburt, excellent condition
The Complete Chess Player, Fred Reinfield. Yellow old pages, good otherwise, actually gets a bit intermediate towards the end.
Is my best bet here, Amazon, or craiglist, or ebay? Amazon charges so many flat fees it is not worth selling any cheep books there unless you have a premium account and a post office nearby.
I want to sell them in bundles to save on shipping, and will sell them cheap. I'm selling the advanced ones only because I've decided I don't have time to go that deep into chess.
