Whatever happened to Square Off?

There was a lot of talk about them a few years ago, then they ran into problems releasing their new boards around COVID, and now seem to have disappeared. Anyone still using theirs?

Square Off was acquired by Miko Robotics and their support for the boards has been minimal since. I have a Pro board that I bought when it first came out and use it with the wooden pieces, it is great. The portability and 2" square size are a nice combination and I play weekly vs bots, chess.com and through the SO app... but I also think that I was lucky to get a board that lays flat and does not have piece recognition problems. I have no experience with the self moving boards.

Do tou think they will continue developing them? There was a lot of talk about the Neo etc. but there has been silence for a while now.

My brother has one of these, and was somewhat unhappy that some of the promised features were not available with the board, but were promised as updates...that never happened. The board is ok for what it is, but he has not used it for a long time now, and just prefers playing games on chess.com on his phone or computer. I think it was a case of him getting the latest, greatest thing before it was truly established.

I've got one still sealed in the shipping box if anyone is interested in acquiring one.

Bought two, one to use and one to send to a friend on the west coast. The experience was not very good so I never sent it to him.

Does anyone else have issues with connecting the board to the mobile app? Is the app no longer available?

It now connects and uses the Miko app. Been using in iOS and working fine, and all premium features on original app are unlocked and usable

Oh, that is very interesting. Has it been like that for a while now?

Amazing we got no notice of that, I still get other emails about products - none about this development,

Yes, they seem very confused themselves. The Miko app looks like a clone of the SquareOff app. I had messaged them a question through the Miko app about the AI levels not seeming to adapt, and they responded back to me that the levels should adapt with every move. They also included in their reply an offer that If I gave the a 5 start review on Amazon, that they would give me 6 months free of premium - yet, all the premium features on the Miko app are unlocked.

Great news. I feared that these tools turned to useless novelties after the ownership change.
