What's the oldest chess set you own?

My only chess board is something called the best chess set ever, the peices are weighted and rather nice, but the board is made of rubber, so it can be rolled up. I hate it...

Hi all,

Here is another set that probably fits this thread.

Rochford Collection

We are struggling a bit to find a lot of references for this set but I would really love to know who played with it over the centuries. The form is quite unusual.

Ciaran, your collection is simply awesome - we need to discuss where you find all this good stuff, by the way, when we meet soon. But of all the wonderful sets you have this is probably my favorite, mainly because it is so mysterious.

Hi Holger, I also look forward to seeing you in person and getting to chat, we had some luck of the last year or so. Take care, Ciaran www.chessantiquesonline.com

Here is my 1890-1900 Staunton (Hartson) 4" (10.2cm) Jaques of London. This is so far the oldest set I've got, but I am hoping to one day snatch up a 1849 if one comes my way🤞🏼.

@MosomHooligan, I'm guessing the box didn't come with those pieces. I bought the same set new about 10 years ago from an online retailer in the U.S, sold as a "Zagreb" style. Also, anything made in West Germany will be at least 34 years old now, and the set in your photos look to be in excellent shape for such an age Old or new though, I love the pieces and it's my "go to" set for playing. In fact I just adapted them for use on my DGT Centaur eBoard. I hope you enjoy the set.

Hey @Boydcarts , Can you share where exactly you purchased this set? I would love a set like this myself!

Guess it's from the sixties or seventies.

Hi @ Ninecastles, it looks like Chesshouse.com carries the set though it’s currently listed as out of stock.
