I just had a look at the site, quality seems very good. Good wooden chess board run from $150 to about $1000. Chess bazaar chessboards prices are very reasonable with free shipping. I may go for this board.

A preview of my 3rd board from MTM wood. A chaotic pattern playing field comprised of different woods with a cherry trim with algebraic notation engraving and a padauk wood border. It's a one level board, the other two boards I have from MTM have a raised playing surface. It may not be to some's liking because of the playing field's chaotic pattern but that doesn't bother me in the least, I wanted this style of board and ordered it this way. It measures 23-3/8ths" squared and has 2.28" (58mm) squares on the playing field. Arriving shortly. I shall display some of my sets on it to see how well they match up and display some other sets on the other 2 boards from MTM wood. By the way the photos you see were furnished from Andrei himself. Thank you Andrei for your excellent craftsmanship. BTW Andrei was finishing up the board when he took these shots, he added adhesive 2" round felt cushion pads in the corners where the oak base meets the padauk border in case you were wondering on protecting the bottom of the board from scrapes and scratches.

Beauty of a board. What a craftsman he is.

Thank you wismike, this board caught my eye the moment he had it for sale on his MTM website but I had asked for a smaller dimension board. I don't need 3" squares on the playing field, this size is just perfect for all of my sets.

TundraMike

may I ask how much would I add for shipping to his prices?  I am guessing $60 from Russia?

The way relations are going with Russia if I wanted to buy a board I guess I Should order pretty fast and maybe get something in stock.

The shipping to New York city was $80. His prices have gone up since 2015. Wood used and craftsmanship is what he factors in his pricing nowadays. This board with 3" squares and these woods will run you a cool 1G today in 2017. He's rivaling the Summerville company's pricing and then some with a few of his creations. His work is worth the pricing, high quality construction and he knows his craft quite well if you've seen some of his  board making videos on YouTube.

TundraMike

Yes I watched him on you tube. He is a gifted craftsman for sure.  Enjoy the board it is an exquisite work of art besides a chess board.

Thanks wismike, I can relate to the tensions growing between the U.S and Russia I hope it doesn't get to the point where Putin puts an embargo on shipping to the U.S. I'd like to order just one more custom board from Andrei. Perhaps one of these next 3, with a 60mm (2.36") square playing field. I'd like to order it next year if possible but who knows what the future holds. I guess one must remain optimistic.nullnullnull

I like all three, that is a tough decision.  I like the raised board look but also like how he inlays the numbers and letters.  #2 I think is contrasted a bit better since the light squares are lighter than #3. But the #1 board looks really sharp.

Maybe I could work a package deal discount for the triple play. I'll ask him see what his $$$ amount would be for the package, shipping would be close to 2 c-notes I would imagine.

TundraMike

I really don't think the cost would triple for freight when adding 2x the weight.  But then again it may take 3 separate containers. I did notice his prices going up. They are close to many American makers of chess boards these days.  Right now I am on a diet of no spending much and selling off a few things. Hope this malaise passes soon.

Hey guys,  I make travel leather chess sets. I handcraft each on to order.  There are three colour options on the shop, but I can totally do other colour combinations upon request.

How many chessmen in total are in the set, 32 or 34 (34 being the extra queens for promotion)?

Mrmariosan

32 in the set - no extra queens in these ones.  happy.png
