Or just go for a vintage or antique chess board , can workout way more cheaper it cuts out the shipping + import cost , check ebay etc for OZ .

Just to close this thread off I actually ended up buying a couple of boards.
I grabbed a Rechapados Ferrer from the chess.com shop. Was my first veneer board. Took some getting used to but am now using it quite frequently, it's a lovely board but it's a lot lighter than I'm used to so I'm not sure how it will last over time.
I also had a custom made solid wood board from S & G Woodwork I'm really happy with. Review in following thread -
