Which Chess Clock to buy.

Is the DGT 3000 as difficult to learn to set/use as the Chronos ?

Eyechess

No, the DGT 3000 is a lot easier to learn to set compared to the Chronos.

The only problem is that the power button is on the bottom, just like the DGT NA, XL and 2010.  It's not a big deal for any of the slower games and just a bit of a nuisance when playing skittles.

RIght now, if I was going to own only one clock for all uses, it would be the DGT3000.

Right now since Shelby is soon to come out with his chess clock I would wait for that. SOunds and looks like a winner. A couple months isn't a long time to wait for the best clock ever.

The ZMF-II is my favorite one. Very easy to set.

I learned something long ago.  When buying a tool (a chess clock qualifies) one can buy cheap and be happy at purchase, but unhappy every time it's used... OR ...  one can go expensive and be unhappy at purchase, but happy every time it is used.  It holds true.  Buy as much as you can afford. It that is a Chronos, buy it. Going cheaper is often regretted.   One never regrets buying the best (even if expensive)  tool.

Eyechess

Yes, you have hit it squarely on the head.  My experiences agree with what you say.

Whether it has been Chess related or anything else, I have never regretted getting the best quality.  Yes, the initial cost has a tendency to hurt a bit.  But once the product has been mine and I have used it I have always been glad that I had and was using the best I could get.

The trick is to get that best quality at the lowest price possible.

I have been happy every time I've used my DGT NA.

I used to own a black ZMF-II with the red led display.  The red lights were just a bit too obnoxious for me (and red is my favorite color).

I have seen the blue led model and that's just too much glare.

I have seen pictures of the white display on the black body and that looks as if it could work alright.

What color do you own?

Fish-Killer

Eyechess, I have the green light with the green box. They also have a yellow LED that looks really cool.

What chess clock looks the most professional?

A ZMF-II looks cool to have at a chess club. But going into a serious tournament, I think it would look out of place

Cavatine

It is impossible to decide which chess clock is best.  If you get one that is very beautiful, people will try to steal it.

TheOldReb

What do you consider a serious chess tourney ?  I have 2 ZMFIIs and my wife and I take them to our tournies ...  they are fine .

Steal a chess player's clock? We live in barbaric times!

Any tournament really, I like them but I was unsure if they look silly at a tournament. Apparently not

TheOldReb

The display flashes while the delay is counting down , which is a bit odd .  I dont notice it much anymore and havent had anyone complain about it yet .

They were memorized by it, giving you an edge!

I see how you play! I got my eye on you! lol

I ordered the DGT NA tonight, also got some triple-weighted pieces.  Hope they provide tracking, but I used priority mail so that shouldn't be bad.

Eyechess

You won't be dissapointed with the DGT NA.

TundraMike

I agree, I have used my DGT N/A many a times now and it works great.

Bardu

Great clock. DGT NA is the best choice.
