My Puzzles Rating Dropped

Even rating puzzles change, percentile which you in top higher than another players still permanently...

In my case it's the other way around. I kept my puzzle rating at 888 (lucky number!) but now it's 1580. I know it's a generous increase but I want my 888 back.

I went from 2670 to 1650! I suppose it really doesn't matter though. We play puzzles to improve our board vision. It's not like they can take that away from you. 1650 is much closer to my actual game strength so I was kind of annoyed for a second but the +5 for solutions and -20 for misses was absurd but the new system seems the same pretty much +2/3 for solutions and -12 for misses.

Maybe I just need to give it more of a chance...

Why hasent it been fixed??

There's nothing to fix. It was a planned change.

My rating took a solid 1,000 point hit as well. I'm one of probably many who still have a puzzle rating that knocks the teeth out of their actual rating, though (if not outright doubling it, then pretty close), so it's funny to read the explanation of making the two more consistent. I feel like more of a fraud then ever!

I was 3400 odd , 3488 was my high I was not far off that , then down graded to 2120 , a massive hit , and I was No 1 in two groups , the people that previously had quite a bit lower ratings than me did not get anywhere near the same hit and It pushed right back into 30 something place but the others got far less of a hit , that seems really unfair I had a much higher rating than people that are now well above my rating , I was in 48th spot out of 108,000 somthing New Zealanders , I have not looked at that but figure id be in the 1000s now , man that is some serious bad balance , some took masssive hit some not much at all.

I play OTB mostly so my rating is lower than my strength in other formats by a few hundred

I am glad it has changed as the over inflation was bad , but it has not been done in any fair or even way thatI see , never mind I will work at it again , I guess it will all even out over time

The change wasn't a direct transformation from X rating to Y. Everyone's history was re-rated based on the new algorithm and the updated puzzle ratings. The new rating was based on what process so the new rating is based on the hat performance.

... I'm a little frustrated, though, that when I set my difficulty it keeps changing back to "standard". I hope chess.com is working on that...

Are you on one of the apps? Also, are you doing regular rated puzzles and not the Puzzle Points feature?

So what did these puzzle changes accomplish? As I see it, two key things.

1) Perception of skill. Your puzzle skills do not change at all, only your number does. If everyone drops together and the same formula applies across all players then no big deal.... however if the formula factors in skill levels outside of puzzles, that would be a rotten method. Example: Player X has a 1200 daily rating so we're going to remove more points from that player and less points from Player Y who holds an 1800 daily rating. This is raw prejudice. A player can be a more competent puzzler and less competent daily player so one should have zero do with the other.

2) They made it exceedingly difficult to make upward progress and doubled down on already punishing negative reinforcement. A make is expected with minimal reward. Misses are many times more destructive than makes. A simple slip of your mouse or inadvertent early drop of a piece results in serious damage that takes much more time and effort to rebuild. I find it abusive. Feels like a mean-hearted dog owner with a stick raised and ready to strike at the moment the dog dares to make a 'mistake'. Bottom line, it doesn't feel good and it isn't enjoyable.

Well, after reading the explanation I'm happy with the change. Sheesh, I was royally pissed a few minutes ago....

Can I get back my Puzzle Ratings please 🙏 Out of the busy schedule I choose to keep up and many maybe doing the same. Same with me from 1932 my highest just dropped to 1500 something.

BRO I WORKED A LOT FOR 2300 RATINGS. I DON't WANT A 1400 RATING. GIVE IT BACXK TO ME.

OH NO!!!! MY puzzle rating dropped....How will I recover???? Im doomed. I have suddenly lost a lot of chess knowledge. What will people think of me???

Said a bunch of insecure people.

LOL 😂

It's true tho (The insecure part) 😔

Personally I like the update.

I hear what youre saying, but it means NOTHING. Its like being so caught up in your rating that when you lose 100 points. Some people act like they lost 100 points of chess knowledge. Take it from someone (Me) that got so caught up in my OTB rating. I stopped playing for 6 years because I made the game so miserable. I started playing again 6 months ago, and just came back from a chess tournament this past weekend. I lost all my games and had 1 draw against a little girl rated almost 300 points less than me. It was the most fun I had at a tournament in over a decade.

The world didnt end. I learned that you can have fun and lose

I empathise the part on coming back after decade or more and still having “fun” after losing the games

All the best for your future tournaments, keep going!

It's really weird to read "chess.com doesn't care about users", or that "this change is a fraud". How is chess.com winning by making this change, if it was a fraud? They sell a subscription, so the least they wanna do is annoying users.

My rating went down ~1500 points, but I was perfectly aware something was not right before this change, as, during the Summer, my puzzle rating went up from ~2600 to more than 4000! And I'm pretty sure this is what happened to most people. So, if you thought this was normal, you are likely lying to yourself.

I play puzzles to improve my tactics, so, to me, the puzzles ELO rating means little. What is more meaningful is the percentile you are at. But again, it's only one indication of how good you are at tactics compared to others. The only number that does not lie is the gaming ELO.
