I think I do.  But it is a bit confusing.   If you want the one used in the championships, you have get the DGT one and not the one FIDE itself is selling.  confusing.

But only if you want to use it on a DGT board, otherwise the one sold on worldchess.com is fine. Welcome to the Alice in Wonderland world of FIDE, where nothing is simple, and everything is a politicized and corrupt mess. They largely can't get out of their own way. At least DGT is an independent company. Anything FIDE outsources is usually dependable.

Actually, I have seen a lot of complaints about the set in this thread https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-equipment/fide-official-world-chess-set-changed

On the other hand, I liked the set so much, I purchased two unofficial versions: one from House of Staunton (to collect), the other from Royal Chess Mall (to use).

Aren't they copyrighted by FIDE?

NOJ.si sells the option to DGT-enable sets that they sell, particularly the BestChessMenEver pieces in any stage - the only caveat is that NOJ sells them unweighted because they cannot use lead or the stainless steel base to avoid interfering with the proprietary DGT coils.
HouseofStaunton.com also sells DGT-enabled pieces such as their Dubrovnik and Reykjavik sets.

Mohan, The design patent and copyright belong to Pentagram. Other companies can get away with close copies that have extremely minor differences, and that makes it next to impossible to enforce design patents. You KNOW that Royal Chess Mall and HOS aren't paying royalties to Pentagram.

The thing about patents, copyright, trade mark. Is globally it is unenforceable. There is no international civil court. If a company copies a design outside the U.S. The patent cannot be enforced outside the boundaries of the U.S.

Well how does DGT weight their sets?  On their website they have weighted and non-weighted sets.

That technique is actually a proprietary trade secret that DGT does not allow other manufacturers to know or use.

As far as I'm aware Frank Camaratta patented this weighting system and worked with DGT

Magictwanger mentioned Era Retro above. They are a one set producer hand making the Tal set. Being a one set producer probably doesn't qualify under the topic question. But what a beautiful set. The antiquing of the light pieces is incredible as is the carving of the Knights and the colouring of the black pieces. I would envisage they could produce other replica sets.

Any possibility of showing a link to the other Era Retro sets? Kate was also an absolute pleasure to deal with.....Lovely gal!

For what it's worth, I mentioned to Gregor of NOJ that I was interested in the Kerrock BCE S1, but had some reservations due to never holding that material, and he sent me a prototype piece on his dime so I could get a feel for it in my hands. (Still in transit)

For a small shop, that is next level customer service that some of the big shops could learn from!

I agree.

Last year when I had both 7 year old Walnut Queens get a collar chip, Gregor matched the wood exactly and provided both Queen replacements for free with free shipping to me.

He also made some prototype pieces on my suggestion to make the collars thicker and got back to me showing that idea did not work in practice.

I ended up getting a brown stained Dubrovnik II at a discount for everyday play.

With my Dubrovnik Minceta set, that I use at least once a week, I own 7 Noj sets.

House of Chess for quality and price.

Thanks for that link! Typical Era Retro uniqueness in those offerings.

That is actually awesome.
