i love Staunton chess sets with wide base pieces, whether it be a 3.5", 3.75", 4", 4.4" or any other King height. For this forum, I will use the term "Wing Span" to describe the 6 pieces: the King, Queen, Bishop, Knight, Rook and Pawn of a set side by side measuring their total width. So please post pictures of your sets with the widest "Wing Span" for each King height.

Below are a few of my sets and their wide base "Wing Spans"

Official Staunton's 4.4" Regal set: Wing Span 9.75"

The more pictures I see of those Soviets sets, the more they grow on me. I like them more and more each time.

So please, stop posting pics of them .... wink.png

I am seeing more and more of these sets in the workshop. They must be a 'hot' collectable.

Great post Mike! I believe the Botvinnik pieces would fit that category.Just got my set last month and one reason I bought it was that nice wide bottom look.

Absolutely gorgeous Carl, does this set have your new weighting process which prevents base cracks?

great looking sets everyone. Especially enjoy the tall set with wide base that Carl has set up. maybe he will commision that with the new weighting system.
