Today I purchased the William Hallett 1860 chess set, in boxwood/ padouk, from Staunton Castle. I was wondering if other people can share their experience and say if the set is as good as it looks in the photos. Thanks

Without a doubt one of the most elegant and perfectly carved/finished sets I've bought in a long time. You should be thrilled when yours arrives.

Beautiful set Holger! This is one of my favorite sets in your collection.

Thanks, Mike. It is one of my favorites too. It was no coincidence that I used this set for the cover of my book.

And an excellent book at that! I continue to enjoy my copy and it is getting a little frayed from my continued desire to peek inside and explore the background of some pieces.

wow, those are very pretty!

You’ll love the set. I first purchased the boxwood/ebony, then added the padauk pieces (the only time I’ve gone overboard for a particular set). The individual pieces are beautiful, but the proportions between the pieces are perfect.

I received the set today, and I am really happy. I really recommend the set to anyone looking for something special
