We’re talking about chess sets. Chess sets. Say that to yourself. It’s quite funny when you take a step back and look at this from a big picture standpoint. Peace.
Zagreb set --- Ebonized/Boxwood --- from ACE

If I may use an analogy....
Blue color jeans are not the same as Black color jeans. If someone wants blue, it's pointless to point them to black. Aside from the color — the cut and style of jeans may seem very similar, but are they the same? Many people will adamantly say they are exactly the same. Jeans are jeans. But are jeans from Old Navy the same as jeans from Uniqlo? No they are not. Is one "better" than the other? That's subjective.
And in the end, you know what? Sometimes people just rather spend their money with a particular retailer instead of another retailer. If given the choice, I rather spend my money at a local hardware store than HomeDepot. For me, it's not all about cheapest rock-bottom Walmart price. I'm perfectly fine with it. Many other people are fine with it as well. No need to make a spectacle.
I completely agree with what you said. I am a bit of a perfectionist to put it mildly. It is a bit of a personality flaw. If I want a specific set, then I don't care if there is something less expensive. I want the one I want.

Well said... but we're all enthusiast here so we are all passionate about chess equipment. Obviously we have strong opinions... some more than others. Anyhow, I am happy you received the set you wanted and that it turned out well for you. So members here are suffering with quality issues. It is wonderful to hear that you do not have any of those issues.

I meant it in regards to arguing about chess sets. But I agree with you about the passion. I love that we're passionate about this stuff. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't.

So telling someone that you are being ripped off is harmful and disrespecting? I beg to differ. Even chesshouse sells the exact same set without the extra queens for $109. So you should feel proud of over paying for a set you can get elsewhere for a cheaper price? Look if he is happy for the set he bought. He's happy and that is what matters. However I am merely pointing out that there are more affordable options out there for others who might want the same set without the same price as to OP paid. American Chess Equipment does great at plastic and scholastic sets and equipment but for wooden sets. They would not be my 1st choice to buy from. Better options in my opinion are out there for wooden sets than what ACE offers. If you are paying double what you can get from another vendor. Hmm yes you are getting ripped off. I paid $80 for the set I posted in this thread minus shipping cost. Yet I am the one who is raining on the OP's parade by pointing out that hey you might have been ripped off. If anyone who should be questioned is Shelby for his price point on a set that is doubled in price to a competitor's price. Hey Shelby how do you justify your price point of this Zagreb set when wholesalechess.com sells the same set with extra queens at half of what you are asking for? I am not questioning the quality of the set just the pricing.
Here again this is what I paid $80 for. Why should EBowie or anyone else pay $164.95 for the exact same set? Look I truly don't and am not dogging on EBowie. I am dogging on Shelby for his pricing on this set. I guess you be the judge yourself. From where I am sitting. EBowie got ripped off and we as consumers shouldn't be proud of a fellow chess player being ripped off. Even if he doesn't feel or see being ripped off.
Thanks for the entertainment, KnightsForkCafe.
Now you say he was ripped off. You are too funny.
Let’s see, you direct him to a set that is less expensive but he can’t buy because it’s not available, nice.
You also completely ignore the major differences in how the pieces are made, with the one he bought being nicer.
He already bought the set. What do you want him to do, return it so he can spend less money on a set that doesn’t exist?
As I said, you are ignorantly too funny.
Remember, KnightsForkCafe, they are only Chess sets. They are only Chess sets. Go do something else so you can get a life.
One thing is to say that there are cheaper options on the market, another thing is to say that he's being ripped off. That was unnecessarily rude from your part KnightsForkCafe.

I made a conscious decision to spend the money I spent. I'm aware of the alternative options. That is not someone being ripped off. I don't have to justify why I made my choice. Being ripped off implies that the consumer was somehow misled or fooled.
What is ludicrous is this dude seems to care more about the money that I spent than I do. And somehow he has turned it into feeling ripped off on behalf of me. Amazing and weird.

On a more real note, Shelby told me which manufacturer he used for this set and the wood Ultimate I bought. It was one of the top 3 manufacturers in India.
As you will agree these sets are really nice. Some or most of the high quality features of these sets cannot be seen in pictures for a few reasons.
This joke, I mean guy, has never owned a really nice set because he won’t spend the extra.
And in this case he would rather have you spend less for a set you cannot get.

@Eyechess Okay I'll bite
The top three manufacturers in India I would guess are in no particular order are: Mandeep, KS Artwork and Chess Empire?
Come on KnightsForkCafe. Tell us more. I’m enjoying this.
And remember, they are only Chess sets. They are only Chess sets,...Om,...

😀😀The ego roars the blood pressure ...🤣

I think "ripped off" is a little harsh. I get where @KnightsForkCafe is coming from. Not getting ripped off seems very important to @KnightsForkCafe and that is fine. We each have our requirements for chess sets. This seems to be his. Mine is design and when my requirement gets violated then I get a little out of sorts. I usually don't project this onto someone else's purchase though but I get it. It is like an itch that won't go away.

Well if you enjoy getting ripped off. By all means continue to overspend on sets that will gladly take your money. Personally I think that it is a shame that you guys celebrate getting ripped off. This is the way I see it and it disgusts me. If you guys are unwilling to see it for what it is. There is nothing more I can say. I said what needed to be said and that is all I can do. Piece Out and enjoy playing. :peaceful
I simply wanted to show some pictures of a set I am happy with. And that I recommend it if someone were considering the same.
It seems that others in here are more concerned with what I paid and where I shopped. Don’t worry, I sorted that stuff out on my own, BEFORE I posted about this particular set.
Helping others with information about prices and vendors and whatnot is absolutely beneficial for those seeking that type of information. But I think it’s quite obvious, based on my initial post, that I wasn’t in that camp here.
