Zmart Fun II vs DGT North American (Updated 2024 edition?) [Chess Clocks]

Which clock would you recommend? Anybody have experience with both? Some simple Google and Bing searches didn't turn up much on which clock is better/comparisons. Maybe I suck at searching.

My impression is the updated DGT is easier to set, easier to read, and lighter, but also a little loud to press the rocker and I guess you use slightly more effort and time to do so. The zmart fun seems more... fun, but heavy and maybe harder on the eyes and less suited for tournaments? Any Input would be appreciated.

For use with tournaments in the US? Use one with the latest time controls built-in with the current rules. Maybe look into this?

It might be personal preference and your budget.

i don’t like the look of the Zmatt clock. I have a DGT 2500 and DGT 1001/1002 (this is very affordable and I like the size).

The ZMF II clocks have a hardware flaw where pressing down and holding one sensor while repeatedly tap pressing the second one activates the time of the other player, and then switches back and forth repeatedly, despite the held down sensor. This flaw has existed since the LED ZMF-II clocks and **PERSISTS** with the **dual screen** $120 clock--I was able to verify that first hand with that clock recently.

I have no idea if the one pushbutton model of the giant digit non-LED version does this.

I would recommend the upgraded DGT NA. The main advantages the upgraded DGT NA has over the ZMF-II that I can think of off the top of my head are the following:

1) For time controls with delay, the upgraded DGT NA shows the delay countdown in digits while not covering up the base time remaining while showing the delay countdown. This way you can always easily tell how much time you have remaining for a move if you are in time pressure. On the current version of the ZMF-II, there are three different ways you can display the delay countdown, none of which are 100% ideal. 1) The display can flash each second between the base time remaining and the delay countdown in digits, which a lot of people find distracting. 2) The display can show the delay countdown in digits but it covers up the base time remaining while showing the delay countdown. 3) The display can show the base time remaining but then it does not show the delay countdown in digits and instead just has the colon flash each second during the delay time.

2) The upgraded DGT NA has a larger screen than the ZMF-II but it's not too big to where it would be distracting.

3) The upgraded DGT NA shows seconds at all times while the ZMF-II only shows seconds when the time is under an hour.

One feature the ZMF-II has that the upgraded DGT NA doesnt have is that it shows tenths of a second once the time goes below one minute. However, seeing tenths of a second is just distracting to a lot of people.

Personally, I find both clocks easy to set. I don't think the lever on the upgraded DGT NA is that loud or requires more effort to press.

Thank you for the input all!

That hardware defect is concerning if once it happens you can't undo it by resetting the clock. Otherwise it seems rare enough to hopefully not be much of an issue.

It's good to hear the rocker isn't too loud or noticeably more effortful. While the zmf ii seems more fun I ultimately want to play in tournaments when my health improves, so the dgt na sounds like the wise choice overall.
