Hello everyone!

I would like to welcome you to call me to see if I can help you with your chess. Essentially, I invite you to have a phone consultation with me should you be interested. We can talk about where you are at the moment, and where you would like to be. In other words, your goals in chess and what will keep you moving forward.

I am very affordable, working for $15 an hour. The way payment works is that we do 10 hours at a time, so every working agreement between you and I, the coach and the student lasts for 10 sessions. We can work on a specific day of the week, specific time, etcetera should it work for the both of us every week.

In short, 10 hours at $15 an hour is $150 for 10 sessions.

How can I help you?

well for the most part, I can share my wealth of knowledge of chess with you. I grew up at a chess club with many IM's, GM's, and masters where a lot of information was shared on how to improve. I have been in chess for over 20 years now, reading online, literature, watching videos etc. I also worked with every major chess grandmaster of the United States when I worked for chess.com as their video guy. I recorded every chess.com video lecture with the presenters for two years straight. I also went from chess club talent, to expert in chess (2000 rating) then to master in chess (2200 rating) then to FIDE Master (2300 rating). I can share with you how to do that on your own.

  1. I can teach you how to become a more principled player in chess ( think fundamentals)
  2. I can teach you how to master endgame strategy
  3. I can teach you how to master endgame theory
  4. I can show you how to create an opening repertoire using tools and software
  5. I can show you how to create model games in your opening repertoire (think games that teach you how to win in the middlegames of your openings)
  6. I can show you how to stay immersed in the subject of chess to always be improving
  7. I can reference literature to you so you can read the best of the best
  8. I can reference chess DVD's for you so you can view the best of the best
  9. I can show you where to get memberships online for nominal fees to be exposed to the best content
  10. I can analyze your games and find your weaknesses and more importantly patterns
  11. I can show you many ways to become a GM on your own (think things you can do on a weekly basis to make it to GM strength)

All our lessons will be conducted using skype, and we will be doing screen sharing from chess.com, chessbase, rybka aquarium, or any other tool I might use.

I can be your coach, we can work for a long time and I can help you improve. I will share my knowledge with you.

Here are some short term goals for everyone:

reaching 2000 rating USCF or chess.com (Expert rating)

reaching 2200 rating USCF or chess.com ( Master rating)

beyond 2200. at this point, you can work on your own, I can show you how by using tools, like software, videos and books to reach higher levels in chess, for instance an International Master title, or a Grandmaster title.

Thanks,

FM Charles Galofre

It’s scary to pay 150$ at once when you didn’t have a free trial lesson. You don’t know what to expect.

I full agree!

Yeah exactly, when I was considering taking lessons with him this is what drove me away.

Well I’m at around 2000 too and am mostly self taught, but it gets to a point where you can’t improve quick enough on your own anymore and at that point you’d get a chess coach. For some people that rating might be 1200, some 1400 and other maybe 2200+

Praveen: it is likely that you can learn what you need from books and long periods of analysis, but a coach would be able to explain such concepts in a way that’s easier to understand. When my coach was teaching me how to play two bishop v bishop and knight endgame, he laid down some principles I never would have thought on my own- such as you want your pawns to be the same color as your opponent’s bishop.

And with a coach you may be saving time and money.

My coach (a gm) charges $125 per hour. (Pretty cheap among gm coaches)

$150 from an FM for ten hours is a good deal no matter how you look at it. My old coach, also an FM, charged about $40 per hour.

I am still improving very quickly so instead of paying for lessons by a coach I can just find recorded lessons/lectures that gms were giving to classes. I know Ben finegold has a lot of those , so I can just keep watching those and try and find out myself what my weaknesses are and what I need to work on. Until I see little improvement and don’t know what I should work on then I should get a coach.

Of course it’s also fun and can speed up your progress a bit, but if you can’t afford it then you can’t afford it.

I mean if it works it works. I was self taught until around 2000 in 10min (it was blitz back then).

Incredible. I am dumbfounded. This is amazing.

Try to understand what I meant to say! I never said , coaching is totally waste. I said, it's useful once you reach certain level , say 2200+. For example, you know about Hans Niemann? He had no coach until he became an IM. He is junior super star now from US. I genuinely feel, you waste lot of money on coaching if you take it before you reach some level! Chess isn't rocket science! It's not at all difficult to reach 2000 on your own. I can't say anything about rich kids ! If you can afford, who stops you! I just felt, that much money isn't affordable for most of the students for sure. So, I said study on your own ! It's still possible

Different people get stuck at different ratings.

"It's not at all difficult to reach 2000 on your own", when 99% of people are below 2000 (like what? Even if it isn't as hard as it looks, such a statistic literally proves it is difficult.)

You assume everybody is like Hans Niemann. They aren't.

It's not that buddy! I am sure, those who are really interested in chess can reach 2000 level easily.. Nothing stops! Let me tell you my story. I was stuck at 1100 for a long time. I thought, I can't improve at all. I used to feel nervous, if I got a pairing with 1250 players. I would think, they are like very strong players . But, I never realised that I am lacking basic knowledge about tactics. So, once I started working on tactics , my ratings started to improve very quickly. Within 6 months or so, I crossed 1600. It's just about your willpower! You can manifest whatever the hell you want if you have that!

YouTube and books have been my biggest sources of chess knowledge till today! I have some 100+ books (pdf) on different openings, tactics, calculations etc. Systematic study is the key to improve.

My story is similar to yours. I was around 800 for a long time, then I started reading chess books. I started to enjoy the game, and I improved from 1100 (online) to 2200 (online) in slightly over a year.

However, you cannot use your anecdote or mine to "prove" that those who are "really interested in chess" can "reach 2000 easily". It's fallacious and quite frankly, a bit disrespectful. Who are you to say that others, who may study a lot more than both of us (usually older, retired people who have time), are "not really interested" in chess?

Is there a way to like do a free trial? I'd be interested but not if I dint get a free trial.

Hello, just a heads up to anyone looking for a chess coach, this man is a very suspicious, he will not give a lesson until you PayPal him $150. Maybe not a scammer, as he is verified on chess.com as an FM, but if you value $150, tread carefully.

Anyone can get verified if they want. I am verified too.

I know charles personally, we sparred many times and i have seen him coach before, and i consider him a good personal friend. he is not a scammer.  Dont spout fear inducing comments like that without evidence.

he does it this way to get more hours and to guarantee people stick to the schedule (and he is quite flexible in accommodating schedule changes if you message him ahead of time). If you feel this method is too risky for you, i believe his non-bundle rate is 25$ an hour. he prefers getting groups of 2-4 students at a time for both a more personal coaching experience and easier logistics on his end.

He is also quite generous with his resources and often trains his students to become chess independent in their studies. Unlike GM's who will happily milk you at $50 + an hour indefinitely . Trust me, you are getting a  very good offer at $150 for 10 hours with Charles.

Well ok but like he said it seems sus that he won't give you any lessons until you pay him $150. Just my opinion
