How do you practice with a chess book?

Ok, so first, I hope this question is ok in this category, as it could probably also fit other categories: i'd like to get better at chess, and one aspect of training is reading books...  Well, not only reading I guess.

So I have these 2 books: "Think Like a Grandmaster" by Kotov, and  Bronstein's "Zurich International chess tournament, 1953"

How would you use them in order to improve your play?  And in general, how would you use any chess book in order to get the most of it?

The questions might have already been asked some time ago or in a different topic, sorry if my post is redundant, but I haven't found a similar question so far.

Thanks in advance for your replies and advice!

After reading, play some games and actively try to implement the concepts.

Should I process the game examples on each page, which can make getting through the book much longer, or just focus on key point?
