Master Class with Garry Kasparov

Has anyone tried the Masterclass.com site with Garry Kasparov?

I'm a really new chess player but I imagine he would cover fundamentals and topics that all levels could benefit from to some level. Membership to the site isn't cheap so I'm I thought it a good idea to ask.  Thoughts, reviews or opinions on it welcome, thank you.

Hi!  I did watch several  Garry Kasparov's Masterclass.com videos.  I really enjoyed his videos and I found the videos to be helpful!.

i watched some of the kasparov master class because i had the license to all the master classes and watched several, including chess, poker, cooking, etc.

they all are pretty good quality and taught by a famous expert, so this includes the kasparov one among the others.

but they also all are pretty basic and you can get the same material elsewhere, probably for less, but minus the celebrity factor.

so, i'd say it's not bad but not essential at all.  you can get just as good on chess.com or even for free on youtube.

that doesn't mean don't do it--after all, i did it.

I tried the freebe - his game with Ivanchuk, I loved it.

Let's take what we can from the introduction-video:

"Chess is a game of unlimited beauty, but it's not just checks and attacks - you have to be creative."

A skewer which is also 'attraction'

How can we prevent this rook from stopping our pawn?

"It's about coming up with new ideas, challenging your [?], finding your mistakes, and next time you have to do better."

King's Indian is appearantly one of his favorite openings.

"If you don't feel like the game can unleash your creative potential, then you're already on the losing side."

I have masterclass and only briefly looked at Garry's class.

To be honest it was pretty useless, but maybe some beginners could get something out of it.

However, if you've hot 90 dollars to spend on chess, you'd be much better off on chessable or buying books

There are thousands of excellent free videos available on youtube.

Not saying that Kasparov's class is not useful. But I don't think a beginner needs a former world champion to learn some basics.

That said, I enjoy the add. Those three students are hilarious.

Hey I had master class last year and did try the Kasparov video and only made it through two or three of his sessions. They were very well produced but very basic and did not seem to help me any. I found this to be true with most of the master class videos well produced but very very shallow.

Being quarantined I am taking advantage of the 30 day free trial. After watching a few classes, Kasparov does a fine job of presenting ideas of chess. But so far nothing has been brought up that is not covered in Lasker's Manual of Chess, which is a lot cheaper.

Thanks Solmyr1234 for posting the content from the trailer! It was interesting to analyze the 'how to prevent the rook from messing up your pawn' scenario.

Kasparov is honest, you may enjoy with masterclasses
