Hello everybody!
My name is Matías Ianovsky. I am a FIDE Trainer and full time professional chess coach.
I am here to present a 4 week course for players between 1400 and 1700 rating on Chess.com (blitz or rapid) who are looking to learn new skills and resources to get their play to the next level.
The course addresses a set of concepts that usually are not available online, but in my experience are absolutely fundamental to improve.
We are going to have 4 sessions of one hour and a half covering these main topics: Positional Chess, Intuition and Analysis. Each session will be a mix of theoretical exposition and challenging practical training. After each session the participants will receive homework and support material.
Course Syllabus (1400 – 1700 Rating)
Learning objectives:
Session Details:
First class: Positional chess 1
The objective of this session is to summarize many of the most important positional techniques and ideas (piece restriction, pseudo- tempi loss, blockade, minor pieces maneuvering, prophylaxis, the exchange sacrifice, crafting a long-term plan, redeployment, among others)
Second class: Positional chess 2
In this session, we will review some high level positional games paying special attention to different pawn structures and the techniques applied to slowly increase the advantage. In addition, we are going to check and collectively analyze the homework assigned (positional puzzles).
Session 3: Intuition
We will highlight the importance of the intuition in the decision making process.
To do so, we will analyze carefully chosen positions to develop the ability to play “in the spirit of the position”. In other words, “feeling” what the position requires, without too much calculation, or deep analysis.
Session 4: Analysis
Before this lesson, the students will receive two games (specifically selected) by players around their same strength to analyze in depth. The objective is to identify all the mistakes (from the little positional inaccuracies to the big tactical blunders) and proposing better alternatives. In the lesson, we are going to check, compare and discuss the analysis between the students. The main goal of this exercise is that the students can gain consciousness of the type of mistakes that normally players around their strength fall into and learn how to analyze their own games without engines help. It is a much more useful training method than analyzing the usually more abstract and complex GM´s games.
Course Total Length: 4 Lessons of 1 hour and a half.
Platform: Zoom
Full price of the course: 40 USD per participant (Payments are made by Paypal, you don't need to have an account on Paypal)
Number of participants: Min 4 players, Max 8 players
Rating required: between 1400 and 1700 on Chess.com blitz or rapid (can do an exception if your rating is slightly above or below those numbers)
