I'm a free member so most of the teaching tools on this site are offlimits. Whenever I try to do the puzzle of the day I get stumped and just move pieces randomly then scroll down and see everyone saying "So easy" "Way to easy" and things like that when I found it SUPER hard! Here's a game I played with the computer:

I found this site great.

Start by learning all the basic checkmates, 2 queens, 2 rooks, 1 queen, 1 rook, 2 bishops.

try and think for a long time about the puzzles and stuff.  thinking about moves is how we get better in chess.  :)

To start, you could try looking at what went wrong with your lost games (you could even learn by finding your mistakes in games you've won) and you should also learn the basic tactics (forks, skewers, pins,...), and then try to think about what your opponent is gonna do.
