Scoring/Difficulty

I do not quite understand how Chess Mentor is scored. Periodically when I receive a low score I gain and also vice versa, when I receive a higher score I lose points. How much is deducted for a wrong move? I also believe there is a steep learning curve, not enough information about the subjects. A lot times I find myself guessing.

The point of Chess Mentor is to learn something, not to score points.

However, there are lessons with differing difficulty levels-- from beginner to expert. If you score moderately high on an easy lesson for beginners, you probably won't earn much of an increase in your rating.

If you score simularly on a very difficult lesson, your Mentor rating may increase.

Unlike in tactics trainer, there is no time constraint. Take your time and think about the questions that are asked.

Thanks, for the reply notmtwain. I will try to slow down and read more carefully. I aknowlege that your statement is true that it is more about learning then points. I wish it was just pass/fail. Anytime I see points it gets my competetive nature going, I have had too many years on the Diamond the Mat and the Ring.
