Why Chess Mentor? Today I received a book in the mail entitled "How to Choose a Chess Move". I might be a rather good book, but after a few minutes with it I fell of to an afternoon nap, so for me rather than Choosing a Chess Move it resulted in me An Afternoon Snooze. I have never yet fell into sleep while using Chess Mentor. Besides that it is slowly moving me along toward making better chess moves.

Chess Mentor keeps me awake, stimulated and motivated. I will continue to improve through its use.

Sounds like the Mentor is for some people and not for others.

Mentor is highly encouraging. I keeps me motivated to improve my play. Starting out with the lessons I enjoyed a rapid rise in rating points. Later I got bogged down but now I regained traction. I am back on the rise though at a more moderate pace.

there is no time limit... for DIAMOND members that is.

Only for those with diamonds, I'm afraid.

Chess Mentor is one of the best programme, I have seen so far... It is a pain for me, that I want to report some serious bugs of Chess Mentor!

Whom Should I get in touch with?

Although, the software captures the Silman's ideas in great deal! There is some obvious things, I found that the authors have missed, to consider.

Regards,

Malola

But I don't have to pay twice as much until some one convinces me it's worth it.Cool

If I start a course with mutiple lessons Chess Mentor does not seem to remember what lesson I was on. Is there a way to keep lessons in order from session to session?

I can see somebody convinced you. I would just like to know why it keeps putting me through so many identical king pawn ending lessons.

order of lessons:

I just upgraded to diamond because of chess mentor & videos.  For chess mentor, I am trying to figure out a good order to take the lessons.  Other than skipping the 1st one about rules, I have started from the beginning, although the first couple course are pretty easy.  Still, I learned a few things & am looking forward to learning much more as I progress.

Could a master teacher (like dpruess) recommend the order I should take the courses?  It seems like easiest to hardest makes sense to me, but that is not an option in settings.  If I do sequential, you might do an 2000, and then drop back to a 1400 course, which doesn't make sense to me.

Any staff member or teacher input would be appreciated.  I am fortunate enough to have the time to do 1-2 hours each day, and am determined to improve my game.

I just do sequential because I found adaptive confusing and I've gotten up to 1900.

With advent of the new rating scheme I have switched to adaptive.

Ichessu is the best website for kids to learn chess online. Their expert teams of coaches and chess masters teach the game in such a way that, it’s easier for children to understand and learn the game. They also offer chess mentors to learn from.

NoPawnlntended

@DavW I must respectfully disagree, Chess.com is obviously the best website. Tongue out

NoPawnlntended

Thanks man, I thought of it myself. lol

I just took their "10 Free Lessons" (it seemed more like 15-20!) and I found it to be similar to "How to Reassess Your Chess", which I love, and I am thinking of joining for the year.

Are there any here who found significant ratings increase from the lessons?

I love Silman's writing and teaching style, and all the samples that were given to me were from Silman.  The rating ended up 1680, which, for me, made me :)

I know it is but a reference point to work from, but if anyone has testimony of specific increase in rating, for example, over a 3 to 6 month period of time, please let me know.

thanks!

A 'pause' setting, where you can close out your session and return later to that point would be useful.  I often find the sessions long, and I'd like to be able to take a break without resorting to giving up on the lesson.
