So why's yer name 1a41-0 if u think 1a3 is better?

Because there's already a @1a31-0

i swear though ur going to create another forum that says "why 1h3 is the best move"...

It should be h4!

no 1.h4 then d5 and e5 you're dead

AND a3 prepares b4 if Bc5 at sometime

yes

but this game isn't so useful as black doesn't play Bc5 and the a-pawn wasn't so useful

thanks for sharing though!

1. a3 is Anderssen's opening. Miles beat Karpov with it.

One of the ideas is to transpose into a colors-reversed version of some opening that's normally played with the Black pieces, but with an extra move already made.

For example, after 1. a3 e5 White can answer 2. c4 and play a colors-reversed Sicilian, with the Najdorf move already made (and an extra tempo).

Or after 1. a3 d5 White can answer 2. Nf3 c5 3. c4 d4 4. b4 and play a colors-reversed Benko Gambit with an extra move... not a trivial matter in a gambit opening. Or he can head into a colors-reversed King's Indian and play the Panno system, which required a6 by Black... again, with an extra move since he is playing the White pieces.

I thought miles played a6 against Karpov?

@blueemu Miles played 1..a6, after 1.e4 in that game against Karpov, he did not play 1.a3.

Well, I stand corrected on that point.

good player can play anything and make it work.

No you should just start by sitting on the chessboard during the tournament. That way you control the most space.

Yup.

Don't ask about the Butt opening though.

Nordlandia

1. a3 for accelerated wing gambit. 1. a3 c5 2. b4 cxb4 3. e4 bxa3 4. Bxa3 with ample compensation for the pawn. A major improvement over the Halibut gambit 1. c4 b5 2. cxb5 a6 with the same idea.

Hello peeps,

Here I will show you why 1.a3!! is the best move.

I have no idea how to make a chessboard so yeah..

1.a3!! e5 2.e4 Nf6 3.d3! Bc5 4. b4!

as you can see, white has moved a bunch of pawns, but these pawns are gaining a lot of space!

Wow !
