1.d4 refuted...?

NOOOOOO, don't do it;  1.d4 is lost !!!   DJ is the 1.d4 killer.  While you still have time, go play 1.g4 !!  before DJ refutes that too.

The white players blundered pieces in all games.

Dark_Falcon

Play me & I will refute your 1.d4 c5! :D

schlechter55

I cannot take the outburst '1.d4 refuted!' serious. Obviously, DJ doesn't mean what he says here. Why ?

Because the game showed that DJ plays very well (I guess, he has a FIDE title).

In particular, 10....g5 seems to be a novelty, which is a strong move.

---

All that does not change my opinion yet, that white has an advantage after

5....f5.

My belief is based on the following facts:

1. Black has weaknesses on his kingside :

backward pawn e7, and weak black squares; if the h-file, or the e-file is opened, it should bring him into trouble.

2. White has the bishop pair, which is not yet in full shape, but this would change after an opening of file(s).

3. White has the half-open b-file. In many variants Black will have to castle longside, and then the pressure on this file will restrict his possibilities on other parts of the board. ---

What can be said about the merits of the black position ?

White has a doubled pawn (not situated on an open file, though), the center pawns are fixed, which make the bishops ineffective at the moment.

------------------------------

However, my and the other games show that it is not at all easy to find the right plan, and White can easily overestimate his chances.

In another attempt I would probably try a more cautious setup:

g3, Bg2,  and preparing e2-e4.

schlechter55

I did not overlook the two proposed moves. Believe me, it all not easy.

Expertise87

What was the time control? It says '1', is that 1 minute, 1 hour, ??

schlechter55

it was 3 days per move. It is a serious game.

D_for_DJ

Every one knows the knight pair is greater then the bishop pair in a closed game. I say black is winning after f5 because i have a better version of the Kid. And we all know that the Kid, refutes 1 d4 also. To all the haters who hate, GTFO. Peace
