Conquistador

Oops, my mistake guys.  I have never seen it before so I thought it has not been played on chess.com.  Thanks for the quick correction.

it doesnt matter if your losing the opening, you will win the endgame :D:D:D
PanaPawn

This can't really be a serious game.

I have to give you all credit for your opening naming skills.  I had only been calling it the "Real King's Gambit" for all these years.  Bongcloud and Tickle the Pope are beyond the ken of mortal man.  I can just imagine them in ECO or the old, stodgy Reuben Fine Basic Chess Openings... or even one of Staunton's books.  I've named a few as well, including the Potato (1. Nf3 d5 2. a4!), the W attack (against anything, 1. c4, 2. e3, 3. g4), and the Miscellaneous Attack (1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. a3), but I've never captured the moment and the mood like you all!

Some of them are in the ECO, Search for:

A00: Barnes Opening: Hammerschlag (1.f3 e5 2.Kf2)

B00: Fried Fox Defense (1.e4 f6 2.d4 Kf7)

B20: Sicilian Defense: King David's Attack (1.e4 c5 2.Ke2)

P.D: I'm not sure of the exact name of the last one, just search it.

That is the funniest thing I have seen here :)

It's a bit of a closed secret - based on the Biblical King David.  If the King isn't willing to lead the army, how motivated can the rest of the forces be?  You won't find it with a search, it's an inside story.

It does not lead to a forced win for black. That's probably the best you can say about it. My guess is most players play this stuff (like 1. f3 followed by 2. Kf2) for fun, for psychological reasons, to show contempt for their opponent, or some combination of the three.

Trivia about the Bongcloud

Bong is actually equivalent to the surname Wang, and cloud in Chinese is more or less 'yun.' So combining the two terms, we get Wang Yun, minister of the Han who serves Emperor Xian. This leads nicely into Chinese history and the Dynasty Warriors game series.

Youn can play Ke2 against the Scandinavian, too.

The main variation after 3.Ke2 involves a lot of theory, the main move for black being 3...Qe4# wink.png

And now in late 2020, after everyone has been trapped in their homes due to a global pandemic and chess is one of the most popular games on Twitch, hikaru Nakamura won a legendary game against Jeffery Xiong with the bongcloud opening

KingSkulltor_On_iFunny

Bongcloud can get you checkmated if you make one mistake after ke2 ffs

checkmator11111

Yep. Every time I play the Bongcloud (which is never) I play 3. Ke1.
