1.e4 f5 : me and my oversized ego vs all of you

Well, that was interesting while it lasted.

17...Rxg5 18.fxg4 Bxh2+ looks crushing (19.Kxh2 would be responded by 19...Nxg4+ winning the queen). I guess it is time to resign soon.

So you are claiming credit for the idea that engines are stronger than Irontiger?

As obscure claims to fame go, that one is perhaps not the most convincing.

Props to Irontiger for having a go, though. Particularly in so public a fashion.

Resign now would be the way to go. Unless the engine drivers in the thread fancy seeing the thing through to its conclusion?

(deep sea diving a better option, though)

samtoyousir

Haha well a lot of people (including Irontiger) thought irontiger would win.

BirdsDaWord

Very interesting thread, Iron. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Chessmaster plays Rxg5

Aetheldred

The new Chess King, Stockfish 5 x64 @38 ply likes Rxg5 as well. -2.89. Advantage black!

Fun Fact: It narrowly prefers 13...h6 (there's a 0.03 difference)

0random

LOL IRONTIGER

Irontiger's ego resigns

goulashnikov

Whatever, he's been plenty humble.

DiogenesDue

0random can't let things go and has a chip on his shoulder.  Just ignore him; most people do.

WeakLightSquare

Kudos for trying

MSC157

I guess he played too risky lines.

TitanCG

Those tactics came seemingly out of nowhere.

BirdsDaWord

Face it, he is facing more than one of the top computers.  This was all just a chance to create a fun thread, and he did that.  Kudos to him.

Are you implying you could beat the silicon monsters given the same position? I'm in, if you want to give it a try!

We only have to add 13...h6 and you got yourself a new game.

MSC157

Well, with an engine use, this would be perfectly sound I guess. :D

Irontiger

Huh oops, g5 was hanging. Somehow forgot about it.

Well, considering the awfulness that awaits (18.fxg4 Nxg4 is already promising a lot of endgame pain, and of course the computer could find even better), I guess I can just resign here and swallow my pride. Black wins ! Thanks for having played !

johnyoudell

Yes, thanks to Irontiger and to those who ran the engines.

Following the approach of the programmes move by move gave some insight into their power. We use intuition to come up with candidate moves but that process necessarily misses a host of stuff which painstaking analysis brings to light.

Playing against them is like walking a tightrope.
