What prevents us from playing O-O and Re8 then?
1.e4 f5 : me and my oversized ego vs all of you
Well, being rated 1600+ FIDE I tested 1.e4 f5 against my comps(Houdini, Komodo , Stockfish DD , Crafty , Fritz , Rybka , DeepRybka) with white and won with ease. Don't think it's going to be so difficult for a ~2000 to defeat the beasts. My comps were toasted.

I think the reason the computers think 0-0 is better is 9. Nf3 Bxe6 10. Ng6 forces a queen trade. Keeping the queens on is probably our best chance, so 0-0 seems to be the best move. Bxe6 should be inevitable, so the material isn't going away.

I honestly can't believe that a 1600+ player can win against any of those engines with a +1 advantage when installed on a decent computer. If a 1600 player were to play an FM in classic time controls, I'd bet heavily on the FM.

Better was to take... With Bishop or Queen, doesn't matter. Now Ng5 is pretty bad for us...
All the top engines disagree with your opinion.

I don't really like black's chances here. White has all the positives in the position.
Not true. Black has a developmental advantage, although I worry that Black really has no way to take advantage of this before white develops. Either way, I think it is wise to delay Bxe6. Opening the file seems to only strengthen white's attack, and like I said, I don't think it is possible for white to hold the pawn anyway, though you can always engine check to see how long we can wait before it is too late. I honestly wish we didn't play 5. ... c4 . Closing the position hurt our chances for dynamic counterplay, which really was our best chance. Being down a pawn allows for quicker development in some positions.
It looks like the computer have a favorite... I will let you a bit more time though.
@human players : I cannot really attack the black kingside without castling queenside, and I really can't castle queenside with a pawn on c4.
I mean, maybe I could, but I'm not doing that against a computer.
