How does this work? I need reliable answers please.

White developed a knight, and left black free to do whatever he wants, except for 1...e5.

Anything can happen. Are you looking for anything specific?

It is the Zukertort Opening. It is flexible and gives White a lot of options as he has not committed to a specific pawn structure. Black cannot play e5 now.

What do you want to know about? Please clarify.

I just wanna be familliar with it so that i don't feel awkward when my opponents play it. thanks

If you guys still think I am still being unspecific just give me the main line names and opening names I need to know so that I can study it later on. Thank you.

Wait! Luckily, you can just click on it! It leads you to the browser page. I didn't expect it to be clickable as I wrote it myself.

Try out a setup with ..d5, ..e6, ..Nf6, ..Be7, ..0-0, ..b6, ..Bb7, ..Nbd7, ..c5, ..Qc7, ..Rfd8, ..Rac8:

That's a gigantic subject (really almost anything can still happen) so thanks but no thanks.

Fundamental Chess Openings is a fine book.

And you can even edit your own Post! :-)

I just fount it was called the reti opeining, I have a book on that, so i guess problem solved?

Avatar of MuhammadAreez10

Isn't the Reti 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4?

Avatar of GMrisingJCLmember1

well since it is a big subject i figured just the popular lines with theory should do for now.

Avatar of MuhammadAreez10

It usually transposes to mainline e4 and d4 lines. Don't worry about theory.

Avatar of GMrisingJCLmember1

cool

Avatar of kikvors

One thing to remember: white can play d4 at any moment and transpose to an opening normally reached by 1.d4, so for many people their choice of what to do against 1.Nf3 depends on what they do against 1.d4.

Avatar of MuhammadAreez10

The Catalan is a good opening. Must learn.

Avatar of Murgen

1. Nf3 is the Zukertort, but most people (and some Chess sites) refer to it as the Reti.

Avatar of MuhammadAreez10

Correct. The Reti is different slightly.

So basically the 1.Nf3 opening is one that can transpose into most 1.e4 and 1.d4 openings, assuming if you know the latter 2 openings well 1.Nf3 woudl be a good opeing for you.
