you don't need any theory to equalize, you just need common sense and not blundering mate. But it's also not the end of the world for White, he's not worse with decent play

Things I learned from playing 4-MOVE MATE / WAYWARD QUEEN for 2 days:
So, I was very strict and played this as my only opening as WHITE. As BLACK I always played e5 to encourage WHITE to try the opening against me. If you don’t know the openings and defenses search on YouTube and you will find a ton.
Here are my takeaways:
- Above everything else, I always hated this opening due to the fact that it is simple, and prays upon others’ weakness. However, for my own good, I wanted to really understand it in and out. Having played it for two days solid was a great learning experience. To be honest the times I won in 4 or 5 moves, or picked someone apart that was not aware, I felt bad . . . If you are wondering, in the end my score suffered because I stuck to my self imposed rules of opening no matter what.
- As a beginner you NEED to know this opening as BLACK ESPECIALLY, but also as WHITE to know how WHITE is thinking.
- It is an incredibly weak opening as far as chess games go.
- It does not work unless you are playing a BLACK side that has NO CLUE what you are doing. And, MOST IMPORTANT, if they have no clue, you are literally bullying someone, and winning in a way that is demoralizing, and could really make someone not like playing as they are learning.
- If you play as BLACK and know what you are doing to counter this opening, you end up with GOOD development in relation to WHITE, and potentially checking and taking queen or rook and/or other pieces along the way.
- Playing this opening as WHITE is like learning a self-performing card trick and telling people you do magic . . . You are eventually going to have to perform a real magic trick and you have no developed skill.
- Playing as WHITE, if the routine is busted up without achieving success, you are scrambling to develop against BLACK that is already in control of the board.
Anyway – Let me know what you think . . . now I go back to my studies on the much more successful London System and Kings Indian (with mods) . . . and a lot more knowledge about this weak opening … Good luck in your travels!
