A question about the Reti Opening

I'm just wondering... considering this position:

 

 

 

 

 

 

If I understand the Reti Opening, at some point White will play g3 and Bg2 to fianchetto the bishop prior to castling kingside... but if that happens, doesn't the pawn at c4 lose its support? Doesn't white forfeit the opportunity to take back the lost pawn by fianchettoing the bishop kingside?

Is the point to sacrifice the pawn for development?
