I have a question for anybody who plays the A Dragon: is it stong enough for tournament play

I've never played it, but here are videos of IM Greg Shahade (curtains) playing it online: http://www.chessvideos.tv/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3073

 Most of his games as black start with d4, but there are a lot of e4 games tooo.

The Accelerated Dragon is the best Sicilian in my opinion.  It is more positional than the Dragon.  Dzindzi recommends it in Chess Openings for Black Explained.  You should pick it up.

Don't play tournaments but the accelerated dragon is my favorite sicilian

Accelerated Dragon is quite playable at tournament level. If you wish to play it, go ahead with one proviso, check out Maroczy Bind (e4 c5, Nf3 Nc6, d4 cd4, Nxd4 g6, c4) theory a little, it seems to be very popular with stronger players as White.
