How about the Evans Gambit? I presume it was named after Larry Evans?
American opening or defense??
Evans Gambit was named for a Captain Evans from Wales.
Ahh OK, I stand corrected!
A strong opening deeloped by an American GM Larry Evans. Still played by the top GM's
Well, even if it were by Larry Evans it still wouldn't be an "american" opening as it is a variaton of the "Italian Game" (Giuco Piano in my day). So with all due respect to "the manhatten defense" and the "marshall attack" as significant lines of play in their own right; these are still variation of another opening, the Queens gambit declined and the spanish game (ruy lopez), respectively.

Some call this the American Defense, or the Manhattan Defense, to the Queen's Gambit.
just because Italian is in its name doesnt mean it was discovered in Italy! Don't be so naive!
Obviously.
And even more obviously you either haven't understood the conversations in this thread so far or you haven't read the previous discussions here. If you had then Obviously you wouldn't have made that comment. Naive, the mirror calls you.
BTW, bswarrior, why is it called the Italian do you think?
Well, one should really be grateful to the Internet for enabling one to communicate with the people from the US. Otherwise we might not realize the full depth of their arrogance, provincialism, and lack of intelligence and education.
Of course, none of this is in evidence in Mordor ...
thanks poly. I hate to treat anyone like that, but prejudice is a funny thing. "I hate you because you're arrogant" - well, isn't that a bit of an arrogant and presumptive statement?

Yeah, I sometimes spend a fair amount of time in forums and in the last week or two I've noticed this guy really get into flaming people for no reason. I just didn't want to allow this go generate into that. I've been a paid member here for a while now, probably almost 2 years since I actually started hanging out here and I think I've got maybe 6 or 8 people blocked. So, it's not like I've got an itchy trigger finger....
because people who liked USA enough to name the opening after it, werent intelligent enough to discover an opening and people who were able to discover new openings, were too smart to like USA
Hey not all of America sucks, just the parts alien to my part. The South and Texas should really be their own countries as their politics, values, and culture are vastly different. Norway and Sweden have far more in common than Mass and Alabama for example. If the South tries bringing back slavery however the North will have to open up a can on them again.

Brilliant!
Now can a non-American translate for me?
Maybe the King's Indian can be referred to as the King's Native American?
Umm, no. They mean Indian, from India. I'm part Mohawk so I have roots here farther back than those pilgrim bastards.
TGOB, not to start anything with a fellow native American, but the North isn't that great either. As far as slavery goes, that was the pretense of the Civil War, and if you think paying people a penny a day, for 12-16 hours of work wasn't slavery, well, that shows your ignorance. Perhaps you should google sweat shops, and why the child labour laws came into effect. Also while your at that, you should check who, and what the robber barons were.
You can be paid, and still be a slave, even today. Best wishes, and I am part Cherokee.
THe point is that Kasparov transformed it
RBR, perhaps but it had been transformed a few times before and all through it remained the "dragon"; that is after it had gotten over being referred to as an "irregular" defense.
But please keep in mind I'm not arguing against kasparov's handling of it being know as the "kasparov" system or some such. And, I'm not looking for nonsense as in the post 1 or two previous to this. I'm really just wondering if there is any distinct opening that exists, that ought to be by whatever our chess opening naming conventions might be, more justly know as something like:
"the american game"
"the american defense"
"the american gambit"
"The american counter gambit"
...that is NOT a variation or subvariation of an existing well known opening. And, if there isn't one is there one that ought be because of either who played it or where it was played OR who brought it into modern practice.
