I have been trying to find which classic chess book recommended 5... Be7 in the Evans Gambit. I was sure it was ‘Chess Strategy’ by Edward Lasker, but I can’t find it there. So I checked Emanuel Lasker’s ‘Chess Manual,’ Tarrasch’s ‘The Game of Chess’ and numerous other old-timey books, but I can’t locate it. I am sure I read it in one of those books some years ago. Any suggestions as to the source I am looking for? Thanks.

I found it! I was right, it was Edward Lasker— but it was in The Complete Self Tutor, not Chess strategy.
