I guess you can also play 4. Nc3, any expert on this line maybe ?
Ba6 in the queen's indian
after 4 nc3 bb7 (bb4 is also good)white can go to petrosian system 5a3 which is mayby best line aganist queen s indian. But you can play a3 on move four so to avoid bb4.The other move is 5bg5 but i find this one of weakest varitions aganist queen s indian. The critical line is h6 6Bh4 Bb4 7e3 g5 8bg3 Bxc3 9bxc3 Ne4 followed by taking on g3 ,d6 nd7 qe7 or qf6 , e5 and long castling.
About 4g3 ba6 white have only one serious try for advantage 5Qa4 Bb7 6Bg2 c5 7 dxc5 but still black is very solid.5 b3 is over tested- black have excellent game.5Qc2 with idea sharp pawn sac Bb7 6Bg2 c5 7d5 is quite instable and blac has lot resources.

4...Ba6 is currently more frequent than 4...Bb7, since white has seral ways to protect the pawn - b3, Qc2/b3/a4, and even 5.Nbd2 has been played rather frequently recently Carlsen being one of the people that felt it was worth some tries - but almost all of them create a mminor inconvenience. But the main line is still 5.b3, when Black has several different approaches, and all of them are interesting.
As Black I have employed 5.b3 Bb7 6.Bg2 Bb4+ 7.Bd2 c5 in correspondence games (for some odd reason I have not met 4.g3 in OTB games yet!), which is a former speciality of Carlsen and Grischuk, and I can't complain about my current 75% score with it.
Other systems after 4.g3 Ba6 require some quite different strategy from both sides- my preference of this line is simply because it creates an asymmetrical position after white capturing at b4.
Oh! And if you read some comment like "the Tarrasch against the French Defence is crap" or "4.g3 gives Black instant equality" you can skip reading the rest, and save a bit of your precious time.
How do you feel about 7...a5 instead of c5?
Hey !
the move Ba6 in the Queen's indian is interesting as it makes White's development clumsy
