Even Bowdler is ok.
Bc4 in the Sicillian: Sozin vs Bowdler
Bowdler attack is not inaccurate. 1 e4 c5 2 Nc3 Nc6 3 Bc4 e6 4 d3 is OK. Sozin and Velimirovic are sharper, but equal just the same.

I've got a question about Bishop development in the Sicilians structures that's been bothering me for a while.
It's pretty clear to me that Bowdler attack (below) is inaccurate; Black hasn't committed to e5 yet and can neutralize the attack on the f7 pawn with e6, which can't be done in the Italian game.
But later on in the move order, there are the more dangerous Sozin and Velimirovic systems in the Najdorf and Classical lines where the Bishop is developed to Bc4.
The Najdorf is just so flexible to the point that you have the choice of 1. Not moving the e pawn at all an transpose to the dragondorf, 2. Move e6, 3. Time e5 in some lines.
It’s mind boggling but end of the day, white can do better than the Bowdler attack.

The main differences are (in the Open Sicilian) the open d-file and the generally more open aspect of the position.
A lead in development is increasingly relevant the more OPEN the position is.
So the quick development by Bc4 in the Bowdler is less relevant than the same Bc4 move in the Open Sicilian.
It has nothing to do with "the generally more open aspect of the position". Even if was more open there is nothing about Bc4 that makes it more "a lead in development"... nonsense.
The real main reason is black can no longer play d5 in one move, he is a move behind from the Bowdler. A secondary difference is that black is not threatening d5 immediately and forcing white's moves like in the Bowdler.
