Bc4 Sicilian

After 1. e4 c5, I find many players (especially in live chess) will play 2. Bc4

My book has 2... e6 as the main move, but theory stops here. Is this a legitimate opening system or just a beginners move to try to exploit the weak f7 square?

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Bc4 is a whole different kettle of fish, and should be taken seriously.

Right, because in the closed Sicilian, black often plays ...d5. After black played ...d6, he will have to waste a tempo with ...d5 later.

Excellent! A fellow Dragon player!

after 2..e6 some  weaknesses are created in the dark squares.

Maybe, but if black doesn't move the g pawn his dark squares look fine.

Yes, that and maybe because they were trying for a scholar's mate. (An early Bc4 and Qh5 trying to mate on f7)

After 2. ...d6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 g6 5. e5! dxe5 6. Nxe5 e6 I believe Black is in big trouble. Not much better is 4. ...Nc6 5. d4 cxd4 6. Nxd4 g6 7. Nxc6 bxc6 8. e5 dxe5! 9. Bxf7! Kxf7 10. Qxd8!!!

I don't believe playing the dragon setup is a good idea against 2. Bc4.

I believe against 2. Bc4 Black has to play ...e6 at some point and playing ...g6 after that only creates weaknesses on the dark squares.

So abandoning the dragon setup seems to be the best option.

What do you think?

I hear this is is called the Bowlder Attack, but I think it just aims at the f7 square. Not much else.

e6 sicilians are very strong.  2... e6 deals with 2.bc4 perfectly, but can be played against regular sicilians as well.    You can play a6 and b5 (Sicilian Kan Wing Attack, my favorite opening) and it give you b7 for your light bishop, your dark bishop is important, since the dark squares can become weak without it.

1.e4 c5 2.Bc4 e6 followed by an early d5 and Black has easy equality, White bungles his advantage of first move with this dud line.
