I read an old post asking about the 'best' opening. of course, a hundred people said there was no best opening. That didn't really help.

Aren't there any openings that are best for beginners or mid-level players to learn first, something that leads to other, more difficult openings?

Is it really best for someone rated about 1400 to just guess, pick one and learn it?

Isn't there an opening for Black and one for White that could be recommended, that lead to good middle games?

For beginners, the London System is good because it helps develop pieces properly and it is a solid set-up.
