For white, the closed sicilian is a less theoretical choice than the open and still very very playable. The KIA is also an option (1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d3 and the line continues in the KIA setup) if you play the KID as black. However, these obviously lack the objective advantage the open sicilian brings, in exchange for less theory to memorize. With black, basically any e6 sicilian (Four knights, Taimonov, Kan and more) has fairly low theory in comparison to the dragon, najdorf, Sveshnikov etc. The best objectively is the Najdorf but naturally so much more theory is involved.

KIA is better suited for ..e6 Sicilians, not ..d6 Sicilians.

It has very little difference and if anything playing the KIA against d6 Sicilians deprives Black of his mainline setup with pawns on c5 d5 and e6. Bassem Amin beat Anish in the nations cup using the KIA against Giris Najdorf.

It gives them the Botvinnik setup instead.

There are ideas for white but it's very different from the French KIA.

And it's not the Najdorf if they don't play the Open Sicilian.

The difference is significant, it's much stronger vs ..e6, without this meaning it's a blunder vs ..d6. But it would take a longer post to explain and ..Easter.

The best Sicilian opening for a 500? I'd recommend just playing this setup. Essentially everything from here is great for Black.
