Yep it is an actual gambit, but I prefer not playing it since after e4 d5 exd5 e6 exd6 Bxd6 black is down with no centre pawns except the sidelined c pawn
Bizarre line in the Scandinavian
It appears Black thought he could try the Icelandic Gambit on move 2, which doesn't work here. Usually the line goes 1.e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 e6!? On move 5 in your game exf7+ was a bit stronger and if 5... Kxf7 then 6.Qh5+. If 5...Ke7 then 6.fxg8=Q and Black's King is exposed.
@blueemu, you have never seen 1.e4 d5 2. exd5 e6 before!? Are you kidding?
For me, I have never seen such doubious gambit.
I will play as a general rule against unfamiliar gambits, ( Take one pawn, dont take two pawns).
Never seen it either but it must just be a bad Icelandic for Black even if you just take on e6 since White hasn’t weakened himself with c4. What you played looks good too.
I’ve had people try 2...c6 and some adventurous folk even played 2...c6 3.dxc6 e5, with a weird reversed Danish type position - totally unsound for Black of course.
Interesting.
I see one theory game, Bodiroga-Meszaros 2015, where black played the better 3. ... c6 and got away with a draw somehow (white is a good pawn up).
After Bd7, black is clearly losing, but if they have done that they should probably play 4. ... fxe6 and hope for a miracle.
One of my recent Daily games started with an odd line in the Scandinavian.
I was White:
Is this actually a line? Because I was just making it up as I went along.
