I thought it was really good. I did enjoy watching the little rivalry with Kasparov unfold. It's amazing what Judit was able to achieve in the chess world considering the limited pool of opponents in women's chess at the time. Kasparov was one of the more difficult champions to test yourself against and there is no shame in any losses at that level. Also funny seeing them use the same clip of young Bobby Fischer twice discussing the limited abilities of women chess players. This was probably the opinion of just about everybody back at the time of the interview. It's only looking back through today's lense that this is obviously wrong. I think the big problem with women in chess (even up to today) is that it's still seen as a boys/mans hobby and harder for women to get into initially. Maybe we will eventually see a woman rise to the top of the chess world (as long as there is not some kind of horrible apocalypse around the corner). Came on here looking forward post about this documentary and could only find this one. It's worth a watch. Gotten me inspired to get the chess books out again and study this complicated game.
Magnus Carlsen - Mozart of Chess was a good documentary. Although I dont like how he is portrayed as something that just is the best and was not formed to the best. Talent, work and education must come together to get world class. Without any doubt. And if anybody says something else it makes me sick. I was interested in the ARTE documentary of Kasparow but they talked the whole time about Kasparow not with him. And here they portrayed him even more unrealistically like Carlsen. The same with Judith Polgar. I dont like this we are the best around. And you are only losers documentary. Some more realism would be nice. For example was Karpow never the evil guy. Karpow visited kasparow when he was in prison in russian and brought him a chess magazine. Thats not the behaviour of an evil guy. Thats actually very nice. So I would love to watch documentaries but without lies and overstatemants and without false glorification.
Kasparow for example got private lessons by World Champions in the Soviet Union. Thats one reason he became that good.
Watching it now. A lot of footage I have never seen.
Very well done.
