Black counterattack in the opening leads to 13 move victory!

This game highlights the importance of a well timed tactic to bring about an easy and early win.

I am admittedly rather proud of this game, as my opponent was a good 300 points higher rating than myself, I was playing black, and I received a resignation surprisingly 'on my desk' after only 13 moves!!

Interesting characteristics of this game involve pulling the opponents pieces away from the central action, an early queen exchange, agressive central pawn pushing, and how to exploit a poorly timed castle.

Enjoy, and comment/analyze pls :

BTW - what is the name of the opening here? After my (black's) 3rd move, is this a well-known variation? (I'm sure it is).

Anyone familiar with it or any of its themes?

If so, I'd be very interested to hear about possible lines that are sound...

Thx

Opening is called: Scotch Game.

Tarius, Charging at the enemy with a lone Knight and pawn like that isn't supposed to produce a quick win.  But your opponent's army was quite uncoordinated and although he had a development advantage by the end, the lo-quality of his development was such that he had no real advantage to speak of. If he'd played  13.fxe3 as he should have I think you have a pretty even game. You might even have an edge.

But you had an even quicker "win" -- You gave Bxh3 and exclamation point but if instead you'd played 8...Bg6 I don't see how he saves his N.

Yes, thanks Pyth, and I did realise about his uncoordinated pieces, that's the only reason I did charge in like that! After the early exchange of queens, the game took a strange twist, especially when his pieces were out of the action - it gave me an opportunity to cause a raucus with my knight, in hopes of buying some time to develop my other pieces better and castle (afterall, why else would I have brought myknight backwards to recapture the queen, if not to preserve my right, and intention, to castle!?). Not a general policy of mine to charge with a minor piece and a pawn, but as the opportunities presented themselves, I took them.

Now as for the opening, yes, I did know it was the Scotch, but i meant specifically after my third move - is there a name for that specific variation?

Is it popular, or well-known? Any good example/sample games I could look at?

I know I did not necessarily play it well, I just like the idea of counter-attack as black to fight for initiative.

Thanks.

That variation doesn't have a name as far as I can tell. It's not really playableFrown. It's been tried over the years (Louis Paulsen, an opponent of Morphy's IIRC tried it twice). Statistically it doesn't fare well at all. White gets a full point 3/4s of the time. White should respond 4.Nxe5
