Won a game on Chess.friends against the Bogljubov, Mikenas-Van Geet Defense, but had no idea that was what we were playing, How can you be expected to know what you are playing when you happen to play moves that correlate to such a specific opening without even knowing it ?

Hi Peter :)

It is not so important to know a specific opening, or variation name.  It is far more important to try to understand the ideas of what is happening in a position.  You can always look up the specific name after the game.

When learning openings, especially for the improving level of player, focus on the ideas behind why moves are being played rather than just trying to play moves from memory because you read them in a book, etc.

Hope this advice helps in your games :)
