Caro Khan Variation

Recently I have been playing this against the Caro Khan which I have had alot of problems beating. E-4 C-6 Bishop E-2. Computer says it's ok. I was wondering if anyone has any 3rd move novelty they like against Caro Khan that is not D-4/advanced Khan.

  1. As mentioned above, it's Caro-Kann, not Caro-Khan
  2. It's the second move, not the third move (1.e4 c6 2.Be2)
  3. Computer evaluations on move 2 are not super useful.

The evaluation of 2.Be2 depends altogether on what white is planning after 2...d5.

Let's admit it. Everybody would like the Caro-Kann to be called Caro-Khan.

Not everybody!

Be2 doesn't make too much sense. It develops, but not actively, and there's no big idea behind it. Still, can't be terrible. I suppose it could transpose to the Short Variation.

If you want to put a minor piece on e2 on the second move against the CK, you might consider 2.Ne2!? instead of 2.Be2?!

:D we should write FIDE and petition them to change it to Caro-Khan!! I think you accidentally stumbled onto a goldmine :P

I knew a kid named Jeff Kahn, and he was sorta cool.
