Some of the most fun i have had in recent years is going on chess toruneys with my chess club. Did someone take a **** in your Coffee this morning?

Wow, again this topic? I could say: surfing is meaningless. But some people like it. Chess is the same. If you don't enjoy it, don't play it. With this attiude, every hobby can be considered meaningless and waste of time.
The point of playing chess for me is the enjoyment of the game itself. And something that brings you joy will help preventing stress and depression. The "fitness for the brain" is a nice bonus.

Like a lot of other things in life, chess is meaningless and pointless. Don't waste you're time trying to be good at this game. Focus on more important things in life.
