Hi, does anyone here play the Catalan Opening? It’s considered a very strong opening, yet I’ve hardly ever seen it used in games here. That seems strange. Thanks for your thoughts!

I is strong, but hard to manage for all us weaker players below 2300. That probably explains why you don't se it very often.

There are a ton of things to learn if you want to play it properly.

You can probably cut it down quite a bit by using the d4/Nf3/g3/Bg2/0-0/c4 move order, as suggested in a couple of opening manuals, but still the resulting positions are very technical, and not exactly "fun to play".
